International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
After a high-level meeting on nuclear disarmament on 26 September 2013, the UN General Assembly designated 26 September as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. This Day provides an opportunity to highlight the need to eliminate nuclear weapons and the social and economic costs of perpetuating them. The UN has commemorated this Day each year since 2014, providing an opportunity for governments and some civil society to discuss progress and priorities for nuclear disarmament.
