The UN's First Committee begins its 71st session

The UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security has begun its work for 2016 in New York. It will be an intense month, particularly on the issue of nuclear weapons, as a group of states has tabled a resolution establishing negotiations for a treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons to begin next year. The Committee will also look at explosive weapons, the arms trade, small arms, drones, autonomous weapons, cyber issues, chemical and biological weapons, and more.

You can follow along with our weekly newsletter, the First Committee Monitor and learn about the issues on the table with our First Committee briefing book. We also post statements, documents, and other information on our website. We'll also provide updates when we can on Twitter.
