CD members re-share views on a fissile material cut-off treaty

The Conference on Disarmament (CD) met on Thursday, 26 February 2015 to share views on a fissile material cut-off treaty. United Kingdom,
PakistanJapan,
South Africa, Republic of Korea, France, United States, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Canada, Indonesia, Australia, Turkey, China, Argentina, India, Algeria, and the Russian Federation participated in the discussion.

  • States reiterated their well-known positions on a fissile material cut-off treaty.
  • France repeated its 19 February 2015 announcement that it will introduce a draft fissile material cut-off treaty in the near future.
  • Australia welcomed the initiative and looked forward to it.
  • The CD President, Ambassador Vaanchig Purevdorj of Mongolia, plans to start the consultations with the regional coordinators on the draft proposals on an Informal Working Group (IWG) on a programme of work, a schedule of activities for the 2015 session, as well as an IWG on “matters of work”.

The next plenary meeting will be held on Monday, 2 March at 10.00 in the Council for the first of eight sessions of the annual high-level segment.
