UN resumes talks on killer robots

From 27-31 August 2018, the Group of Governmental Experts on lethal autononomous weapon systems (aka killer robots) will resume its work at the UN in Geneva. States have been considering the question of what to do about the potential development of autonomous weapons, which would operate without meaningful human control. The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots is calling for a legally binding instrument prohibiting autonomous weapons. As of the beginning of this round of talks, 26 states support the call for a ban. The majority support the development of new international law.

As a member of the Campaign, WILPF has been covering these talks for the past several years. Follow us for reporting and analysis, as well as primary documentation.
