States, survivors, and civil society meet in Oslo to discuss the use of explosive weapons in populated areas

The first conference to review the implementation and universalisation of the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (EWIPA) was hosted by the government of Norway in Oslo on 23 April 2024. The Conference Programme included three sessions with presentations and statements from states and civil society, as well as opening and closing sessions. Ahead of the conference, the International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW) and the Norwegian Red Cross co-hosted the Protection Forum, which provided an open and interactive space to discuss how to meet the needs of conflict affected communities, and to foster genuine dialogue to address to strengthen the protection of civilians from the use of EWIPA.
